Lusitanite

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lusitanite is a plutonic rock from Portugal.

The rock is an alkaline isenite and contains microcline , about 50% riebeckite and aegirine and is therefore a microcline-melaalkali isenite. Other minerals are amphibole , pyroxene , olivine and ores. The color of the fine-grained syenite varies between gray and gray-pink.

It is found near Alter do Chao in the Alentejo in Portugal. The name Lusitanit is based on Lusitanien , a Roman province of the imperial era, which roughly corresponds to today's Portugal.
