The Lussekatt (plural lussekatter "Luciakatzen"), also called saffranskuse or julkuse , is a traditional Swedish pastry that is given a distinct yellow color from its most typical ingredient, saffron . Lussekatter traditionally for Lucia celebration baked, which is an important pre-Christmas holiday in Sweden and is celebrated on 13 December. You can drink coffee or glögg with the lussekatter .

Lussekatter comes in many different forms. In the traditional and most common form, called julgalten , the dough strand is rolled up at the ends in opposite directions so that it resembles an "S". Then a raisin is placed in the middle of each snail. When two lussekatter shaped like this are placed next to each other, they are called julvagn ("Christmas car"); cruciform arranged lussekatter hot julkors ( "Christmas Cross"). Other forms are called lindebarn , kyrkporten , prestens hår or såkaka .
