history

The Luther Church was built according to plans by Olaf Andreas Gulbransson . For Gulbransson it was the first church to be built. The building is shaped by the still clumsy hand of the young architect, who was only to find his characteristic tent shape with a central altar with his later buildings. The church is also characterized by the rapid construction of the post-war period. The laying of the foundation stone took place on September 20, 1953, after about six months of construction the church was consecrated on March 28, 1954.

The original furnishings from the construction period have been preserved in the church. In the run-up to a renovation, the church was placed under monument protection in 1991 .

description

The towerless and outwardly inconspicuous church has the ground plan of an elongated hexagon. There are community rooms under the church. The altar area is naturally illuminated by a clever arrangement of the windows that is not visible to the community.

The church's furnishings include the baptismal font by Ulfert Jansen , the altar by Michael Dux , the altar crucifix by Helmut Amman , the altar window by Joseph Oberberger and Arno Bromberger using fragments from Augsburg Cathedral as well as lamps and altar candlesticks based on the architect's designs. His father, the caricaturist Olaf Gulbransson , designed the entrance door with a relief of a Luther figure .
