history

The place was formed in the Middle Ages under the name Pakuvere around the German Baltic manor house. In 1519 the manor house became the property of the noble von Luden family, from which the current name of the place is derived. The preserved late baroque mansion dates from 1736. With its 14 hectare park, a romantic forest and the avenues, it is one of the most beautiful manor ensembles in Estonia. In the 17th century the facility passed into the possession of the von Strömfeld family and in 1831 it fell to the von Oettingen family . An oak alley leads from the manor house to Lake Porssa. The Estonian writer Johannes Semper spent the summer months there from 1953 until his death.

After the Second World War , a forestry school was set up in the manor house in September 1948. It also houses a forestry museum. In the 1950s, the originally one-story mansion was added another floor.
