William Blake's illustration of Lucifer in John Milton's Paradise Lost

Luciferianism is a religious movement or worldview and is mostly perceived as a current of Satanism and is therefore part of the path to the left hand . In contrast to other satanic currents, Lucifer is seen here as something positive, as a figure of light who brought people knowledge and freedom and rebelled against a creator god that was viewed as negative. Sometimes Lucifer is also seen as a (true, pre-Christian) god (e.g. Ashtar) or merely as a symbol. Luciferianism also appears in part in the works of some authors, such as B. with Victor Hugo . Luciferianism was also a name given by Gregory IX. for heretics and heretics .

Beliefs

Luciferianism has no religious dogmas or scriptures. Followers of this movement seek knowledge by studying the occult , thelema , kabbalah and gnosis . The rejection of dogmas and religion as well as the negation of the dualistic principle of good and bad is central to this belief. The general rejection of religious dogmas can be compared to a kind of secularization. Furthermore, Luciferianism propagates an absolutely egalitarian world in which there is no rule of authorities and thus advocates anarchism to a certain extent . Belief in heaven and hell is also mostly rejected.

Theistic Luciferianism

In theistic Luciferianism, Lucifer is revered as a deity, in contrast to the Christian creator God, however, not as an authority, but as a friend and savior. Theistic Luciferianism is thus one of the religious movements. One such community is the Neo-Luciferian Church, founded by Bjarne Pedersen and Michael Paul Bertiaux in 2005. It has members u. a. in Sweden and Denmark.

Arcadian Luciferianism

It is also called atheistic Luciferianism, here Lucifer is seen as a symbol and not worshiped as God. Arcadian Luciferianism is a mix of secular humanism and neo-paganism . Even if followers of this current perform occult and magical rituals and celebrate neo-pagan festivals, all these actions are only taken as symbolic.

Differences from Satanism

Although Luciferianism is considered a satanic current, it differs from Satanism in some ways. While in Satanism humans are perceived more as animals and a more elitist worldview is pursued, in Luciferianism, on the other hand, an egalitarian worldview is represented and humans are seen as beings who can achieve higher levels of knowledge through spiritual work. Satan is also seen in Satanism as evil or animal, while in Luciferianism Satan is seen as the fallen angel and light-bringer Lucifer and thus far more positive properties are ascribed to him.
