Lynds 1544

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lynds 1544 is a gas and dust cloud in the constellation Taurus that has a protostar residing in it. It is about 450 light years from Earth.

The Herschel Space Telescope found water vapor in the cloud , which would approximately fill the volume of 2,000 oceans on earth . In addition, it was observed that the water molecules migrate more and more into the center, which indicates that the protostar is on the verge of collapse.

So that cosmic rays could release such a large amount of water vapor from the icy interstellar congestion, it was estimated that Lynds in 1544 contained an amount of ice that corresponds to three million Earth oceans.
