The MÁV IIIa was a freight train - steam locomotive series of the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV).
MÁV ordered triple-coupled locomotives from the StEG locomotive factory for the steep incline of the former Alföld-Fiumaner Railway (Alföld-Fiumei Vasút, AFV) , which had larger wheels and heavier weight than the machines of the later category MÁV III .
They were initially given the company numbers 145–158, later the category designation IIIa and the numbers 2201–2214. From 1911 they were designated with 338.001-014.
The MÁV subjected the machines of this series to a conversion, as a result of which the length over the buffers increased to 15.097 mm. Of course, they also received the long Hungarian smoke chamber.
