Mícheál Éamonn Mac Donncha [ mʲiːhɑːl eːmən̪ mək d̪ɔn̪əχə ] (* around 1965 as Michael McConkey ) is an Irish politician of the Sinn Féin and from June 2017 to June 2018 the 348th Lord Mayor of Dublin .

Life

At the age of twelve he starred in the film The Last Remake of Beau Geste in 1977 . He later switched to the Irish-language version of his family name.

From 1990 to 1996 Mac Donncha was the editor of An Phoblacht , the official magazine of Sinn Féin. He then worked for 17 years, from 1997 to 2014, as parliamentary assistant to the MP Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin .

In 2011 Mac Donncha moved to the Dublin City Council for the resigned Killian Forde . Forde was originally elected to the Dublin City Council for Sinn Féin , but then moved to the Irish Labor Party . With Forde's resignation, the seat was now back to Sinn Féin. In the next regular elections in 2014 Mac Donncha was able to defend his seat.

In the 2016 elections for Dáil Éireann , he ran unsuccessfully in the Dublin Bay North constituency .

On June 26, 2017, he was elected Lord Mayor of Dublin with 35 votes , replacing Brendan Carr . He was succeeded by Nial Ring .
