Mönchguter coastal fishing museum

The Mönchgut coastal fishing museum in the Baltic Sea resort of Baabe shows the means of production of the fishermen living on Mönchgut who were influential boat builders. The museum has existed since June 2, 2001. In the 15th edition of its Red List , the German Culture Council points out that this cultural institution as well as other institutions of the Mönchgut museums have been closed (thus classified in category 0).

One of the exhibits is the 9.20 m long motor boat “Ossi”. After its decommissioning, the municipality of Baabe took care of it, as did numerous other fishing boats built in Baabe. In addition, the museum shows so-called motor trap boats , including the landing boat “Polt” with its original trap . The exhibition also includes a herring sorting machine, information boards about fishing and boat building as well as personalities from the local fishery.

The museum is open all year round.
