The Música Gaúcha is a style of music in southern Brazil . It was originally the rural music of the people of the state of Rio Grande do Sul ('Gaúchos'), but has now been adopted by the urban middle class. The Música Gaúcha remained very limited to the state of Rio Grande do Sul and found little supra-regional distribution, as was the case with the Música Sertaneja .

The main instrument of the Música Gaúcha is the simple gaita accordion . In addition to influences from the neighboring countries Argentina , Uruguay and Paraguay, there are also those of the Indians whose ancestors lived in the Jesuit reductions .

The best known musicians of the Música Gaúcha are Renato Borghetti and Bebeto Alves , who also try to catch up with modern developments in the Música popular brasileira . Other musicians try to connect them with the "Música Sertaneja".
