Mühlenhof (Koenigsberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mühlenhof was a district of Königsberg (Prussia) , south of the Alten Pregel or Natangischen Pregel , southeast of the Haberberg and north of Rosenau . It is now part of the Moscow Rajon in Kaliningrad .

This village around an estate was dominated by sawmills and was not incorporated into Königsberg until 1905. The cellulose and paper industry is one of the most important branches of industry in East Prussia. The trees were felled in the Russian-Lithuanian forests during the winter and the Memel was flooded down after the snowmelt . The route into the Pregel led over the Curonian Lagoon and the Deime . The mighty rafts were landed at the sawmills in Mühlenhof, where they were sawn into boards with the help of windmills and prepared for export.
