Mill plunger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A mill plunger , also known as a stuffer or grinder plunger , is a simple device for feeding spice mills and kitchen graters with a hand-driven roller. It is used to feed the grist to the grinder without risk of injury . Mill plungers are mostly made of wood in order not to damage the grinder if the grist is used up or the plunger is accidentally inserted without grist. Plastic plungers are less common . The shape, adapted to the mill or grater, is usually cylindrical or square. The handle is usually designed with a slight overhang so that the mill plunger cannot fall into the machine.
