The Müllerhaus is a listed town house in Lenzburg , Canton Aargau ( Switzerland ). The early classical building, which was built in 1785 on behalf of Gottlieb Hünerwadel by the Bernese architect Carl Ahasver von Sinner , is one of the most important cultural assets in Lenzburg .

history

The town house was built in 1785 in the age of the cotton boom and served as a residence and office building at the same time. The basement was used as a warehouse, the ground floor for sales, while the two upper floors were used as mansions.

After the economic decline of the Hünerwadel dynasty at the end of the 19th century, the doctor Adolf Müller-Fischer bought the empty town house in 1903. He opened his doctor's office there and moved his family to the first floor. Today the house is owned by the «Foundation Dr. Hans Müller and Gertrud Müller », which was founded in 1987 by his children Hans and Gertrud Müller. It is the seat of the Aargauer Literaturhaus, the painter Fritz Huser , “Pro Argovia” , “Forum Helveticum” and various non-profit organizations. There are cultural events, weddings, readings, concerts, training courses and celebrations.
