The Münsterdorfer Mobiliengilde is one of the oldest insured communities in the world. The foundation dates back to the year 1631, than during the Thirty Years' War the place Münsterdorf heavy casualties were reported. Therefore the inhabitants of Münsterdorf got together to repair serious damage in the village through a guild.

Today the Münsterdorfer Mobiliengilde is primarily a household contents insurance . In addition, it offers the entire spectrum of the insurance industry and therefore works closely with other partners in the insurance industry. At its peak, the guild had more than 800 members with an insurance sum of around 1.5 million euros. Today there are around 400 members with a total insurance sum of a good 23 million euros. All contracts are reinsured by the Gilde with the Kiel Reinsurance Association and thus additionally secured.

Since it was founded, it was headed by an elderly man who was also an elderly man in the village. An elderly man still runs the business of the Münsterdorfer Mobiliengilde together with a board of five. Thanks to the voluntary work of all employees of the guild, contributions can be kept small. In the past, the guild was always firmly embedded in the village community. The annual guild festival also contributed to this, which according to today's understanding was tantamount to a folk festival. The guild festival was discontinued at the beginning of the Second World War and not resumed.

Over time, the guild steadily expanded its business area. In the beginning, only the residents of Münsterdorf were members, but soon residents of the surrounding villages were also included. Today's business area includes all of Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony and Hamburg, with the guild's focus in the Steinburg district and especially in Münsterdorf.

The oldest surviving statute from 1695 had the status of a law to which all guild brothers had to strictly adhere. The articles of association were constantly updated in accordance with the requirements of the times. War damage and unrest damage were not insured from the start, which is one of the reasons why the guild survived all wars, including both world wars, financially well.
