Coin nominal
The Münznominal , usually only nominal , (from latin nominare denote ' ) is the name of the coin unit in connection with a particular denomination (= a fraction or multiple of). The term from numismatics is also circumscribed as “nominal value”, “coin value”, “ nominal value ” or “nominal size”. An official reduction of the nominal value of a circulating coin is as Münzherabsetzung referred.
Example: The nominal value series of a Reichsthaler could be: Double Taler - 1 Taler - 1 ⁄ 2 T. - 1 ⁄ 3 T. - 1 ⁄ 4 T. - 1 ⁄ 6 T. - 1 ⁄ 12 T. - 1 ⁄ 24 T. - A nominal can have been minted in different variants (different years of issue , rulers , mints ). The term does not depend on a corresponding inscription on the coin, which is often completely missing on ancient or medieval coins. The prerequisite is the actual expression of the specific value.
The nominal value usually differs from the material value , the market value (offset value ) and the collector's value .
