The Müritzschwimmen is an annual international swimming competition in the spa town of Waren (Müritz) . The distance through the Müritz is 1950 meters. The competition took place for the first time in 1969. Since the 31st event, the time has been measured by transponders .

The route between the east bank and the Waren public baths, unchanged since the second event, is covered regularly on the first Saturday of August. On the east bank, all swimmers start together in a mass start. The route is marked by four large buoys . The destination is the Volksbad in Waren (Müritz), where the swimmers are usually greeted by a large audience.

The safety of the participants is guaranteed by escort boats. Medical care is also provided on land. Due to safety precautions, the number of participants is limited to around 600, this number has mostly been reached in recent years.

Since 2012, a children's swim over 400 m has been carried out after the Müritz swim.

In the 2014 SWIM AWARD, the Müritz swimming was voted 3rd in the "EVENT OPEN WATER" category.
