Māris Gailis (born July 9, 1951 in Rīga , Latvian SSR ) is a Latvian politician and businessman.

In the summer of 1994, a dispute over agricultural and economic policy broke out in the minority government headed by Valdis Birkavs . Latvijas Zemnieku savienība , the Latvian Farmers' Union , left the government alliance, Birkavs resigned. The new Prime Minister was Māris Gailis, who led a coalition of his own party Latvijas Ceļš ( Latvia's Way ) and the Tautsaimnieku Politiskā Apvienība ( Political Association of Economists ) and independent ministers until the 1995 elections .

After retiring from active politics, Gailis took on various positions in business; Among other things, he was chairman of the supervisory board of the energy supplier Latvijas Gāze . Most recently he was involved with his GmbH SIA Māris Gailis in the development of a marina and exclusive residential construction project on Riga's Daugava Island Ķīpsala. In addition, Gailis and his wife, the architect Zaiga Gaile, are committed to maintaining traditional wooden houses in the capital.
