history
Műegyetemi AFC was founded in 1897 as Műegyetemi Football Csapat ( German football team of the Technical University ) at the Technical University of Budapest . In 1898 the name was changed to Műegyetemi Football Club ( German football club of the Technical University ). In 1901 the club was one of the founding members of the first Hungarian league, the Nemzeti Bajnokság , but withdrew after four games in the 1901 season. In 1902 the name was changed to Műegyetemi Athletikai és Football Club ( German Athletics and Football Club of the Technical University ), as athletics had become a second focus of the club. After two years in the second division, MAFC played again in the House of Lords in 1904, then withdrew again during the 1905 season. In the early 1920s, the MAFC was briefly top-notch twice, and has only played in the leagues of the city of Budapest since then. In badminton, the club was first class in eight seasons from 1966 to 1982.
