m23 is a free software distribution system for clients with Debian / Linux , Ubuntu / Linux, Kubuntu / Linux, Xubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, openSUSE and CentOS; the m23 server runs on a Debian system. Several clients can be installed, administered or maintained over an existing network. m23 has been developed mainly by Hauke Goos-Habermann since the end of 2002.

functionality

When working with m23, a distinction is made between servers and clients. The m23 server takes over the distribution of software as well as the administration of the m23 clients. The client is booted over the network when the operating system is installed; the boot ROM of the network card, a boot disk or a boot CD can be used to start the client. The hardware contained in the client is recognized and set up. Now the determined hardware and partition information is sent to the server, which displays the data in the interface (web browser). The administrator is now given the option of various settings, including partitioning and formatting for the subsequent installation of a distribution on the client.
