MAN farm diesel
MAN Ackerdiesel refers to tractors that were manufactured by MAN from 1921 to 1962 .
history
The first model from 1921 was a so-called portable plow. From 1923 a small tractor with 20 hp was offered. However, the construction of tractors was discontinued shortly afterwards in favor of the more lucrative truck construction.
Due to high demand from the eastern regions of Germany, tractor production was resumed in 1938 with a 50 hp so-called farm tractor (MAN AS250). This tractor stood out from the competition with its particularly low diesel consumption; by the end of 1944, around 1,300 vehicles were built, mostly in France by the Latil company.
Even after the Second World War , MAN tractors, now predominantly all-wheel drive models, for example the AS 325A. In the period that followed, up to around 1962, MAN was able to produce around 50,000 tractors in the performance classes from 14 to 60 hp. The German and international market for tractors began to consolidate at this point in time , so that MAN merged production with Porsche-Diesel in 1962 . However, Porsche gave up this division in 1963, which also led to the cessation of Ackerdiesel production.
The design of the radiator grilles of the MAN farm diesel engines was similar to those of the MAN trucks of the time ; the latter bore the lettering "MAN-Diesel". Today MAN tractors have become a popular collector's item.
