Moskowskaja Gorodskaja Telefonnaja Set or MGTS for short ( Russian Московская Городская Телефонная Сеть / Moskowskaja Gorodskaja Telefonnaja Set ) is the largest telecommunications provider in the Moscow region . MGTS belongs to the Sistema group and has over 4 million customers.

history

On July 1, 1882, the first telephone company in Moscow was established by the Bell International Telephone Company. Initially it had 800 numbers and 26 households, and two years later it had over 3,000 customers. In 1891 a Swedish-Danish-Russian joint venture took over the telephone service for 18 months. In 1916 there were already over 60,000 numbers. In 1994 MGTS was converted into a Russian stock corporation and incorporated into the Sistema Group.

Shareholders

In April 1995 Sistema took over 25 percent of MGTS shares. Over the next three years, over 106 million US dollars were invested and the capital share increased to over 50 percent.
