The MG 81 was a machine gun from the time of the Second World War from German production. It was developed by the Mauser company in 1938/39 .

history

The MG 81 was designed for mobile installation in German combat aircraft. The basis for the development was the MG 34. The MG 81 replaced the MG 15 and from the end of 1940 was mainly used as a defensive weapon in bombers, for example in:

A twin version was developed under the designation MG 81Z (two barrels on one carriage ). In contrast to the MG 15, it was loaded with ammunition belts and, with its high cadence and fewer pauses for reloading, offered far more firepower . Towards the end of the war, many copies were given to the army and equipped with shoulder rests and bipods for use in ground battles .
