Mašturi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mašturi was a Hittite vassal king of the Šeḫa river country around the middle of the 13th century BC. He was possibly the son of Manapa-Tarḫunta and followed this during the late reign of the Hittite great king Muwatalli II. (Approx. 1295-1272 BC) on the throne of Šeḫa. He was married to Maššana-uzzi ( Luwian : "Gods wish"), the daughter of Muršilis II. And sister Muwatallis. The marriage remained childless, so that Mašturi had no heir to the throne. He supported Ḫattušili III. active in the deposition of the rightful great king Muršili III. (Urḫi-Teššub). Mašturi is documented as king of Šeḫa even at the beginning of the reign of Tudḫalija IV. On the bronze plaque from Bogazköy , which depicts a c. 1236 BC. Established a state treaty between Tudḫalija and Kurunta , Mašturi is mentioned as a contract witness.

After his death there was a tumult of the throne and Tarḫunnaradu finally became king.
