Macinaggio port

Macinaggio (Corsican: Macinaghju) is a port and part of the municipality of Rogliano , in the Haute-Corse department in Corsica . The port of Macinaggio is located on the northeast side of the Cap Corse around 4.5 km from Rogliano.

Port history

Macinaggio, named for its windmills, is the largest port of Cap Corse. It has been very active since ancient times, and the Romans used it as a military port. The port was used by the Genoese in 1620 to export olive oil and wine to the Italian peninsula.

View of the port

From June 1748 to 1753, the port was occupied by French troops and expanded for military purposes. Historically, the port became known above all through the Corsican revolutionary and resistance fighter Pasquale Paoli , when he left Corsica on July 14, 1790 from the port of Macinaggio and sailed into exile in England. In 1814 Napoleon Bonaparte landed in port on his return from exile on the island of Elba. In December 1869 the imperial yacht "L'Aigle" called at the port of Macinaggio after the Empress Eugénie inaugurated the Suez Canal.

Today the port, which was based on the original port and expanded, is one of the major leisure harbors on the Tuscan coast in the Mediterranean and is heavily frequented by summer tourism.

Port facility

The inner harbor of Macinaggio is protected from the sea by a breakwater. The port has a total of 600 berths. The port can accommodate ships up to 50 m in length on its quays, which are equipped for large boats. 260 berths are reserved for short stays.

Technical service companies for boats, as well as shower facilities, sanitary facilities and restaurants are located on the adjacent property. There is a lifting pontoon (up to 45 tons), crane, drinking water, fuel and power supply directly on the quay.
