Macintosh User Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Macintosh User Group (abbreviation: MUG ) stands for groups of users who work with Macintosh computers from Apple .

People meet to exchange experiences, pass on knowledge, help with problems or give advice on buying. There are also so-called Mac forums that perform this task on the Internet and that occasionally organize meetings to get to know each other and exchange experiences. Such user groups fulfill an important task with regard to an unofficial and open representation of customers who use or want to use Macintosh computers, promote the appropriate use of the computers and offer quick help which, from an economic point of view, cannot be offered by the manufacturer or the retailer . They also channel user requests, which enables further development in the user's sense.

MUG originally only existed in America, but as Mac computers became more widespread, MUGs formed around the world.

In Germany the most famous MUGs are:

  • Mac IG  - Macintosh interest group (informal meetings in numerous cities in Germany, Austria and Switzerland)
  • Mac e. V. - Menschen am Computer (registered association with branches in different cities)
  • Wom Mac - meeting for Mac users in the Schwabach / Nuremberg area (meanwhile dissolved)
  • AUGE  - Apple User Group Europe, was founded in 1979, but has been open to all operating systems for many years; only a small proportion of Macs
  • MUG Mannheim - was founded in 2003 Website MUG Mannheim
