Macks of Knox-class frigates
Mack is a term used in shipbuilding for a combination of mast and smoke vent (stack). The name comes from the contraction of the English names " ma st" and "sta ck ". Macks are mostly used on warships , where they are a space-saving method to accommodate extensive electronic systems. In the US Navy, the Leahy-class guided missile cruisers were the first ships with a Mack.
