Macro management

Macromanagement ( Macro for short ) is the counterpart to micromanagement in real-time strategy games and describes the construction of units and buildings, the control of large groups of units, and the control of resource depletion.

In macro management, the most important thing is the correct timing and the control of all important elements at the same time. For example, it can prove fatal for the player to forget to re-produce units or research upgrades when he is in a difficult battle. Macromanagement also includes the so-called “scouting” of the opponent, i.e. the spying out of the opponent's actions as well as the correct reaction to his actions.

Macro management is usually the more important part of winning a game. However, games at a very high level tend to be decided by differences in micromanagement, since both players usually have an almost flawless macromanagement. Nevertheless, the comparative importance of micro and macro depends to a large extent on the game as well as the game classes and cards used.

In macromanagement, a distinction is made between different modes in which the player values ​​certain properties. Examples:

Storm
In this mode, a large army is set up as quickly as possible with the aim of opposing the enemy with a large number of units.
expansion
In this mode, production units are set up or conquered for resource extraction or unit production.
Card control
In this mode, units are scattered across the map in order to control as large an area as possible.
technology
In this mode, attention is paid to research to improve or unlock units, facilities and skills.
Hedgehogs, turtles
A defensive strategy that relies on protecting existing production units.

These modes are not exclusive to each other, but can also be combined as required.
