Madaraka Day

The Madaraka Day is one of the most important holidays in the Kenyan calendar year. Every year on June 1st, Kenya celebrates full independence from the United Kingdom since 1963. On June 1st, 1963, Jomo Kenyatta became the country's first Prime Minister when Kenya gained independence.

Madaraka means "self-administration" or "responsibility" in Kiswahili .
