Origin and meaning

The name was originally a Welsh family name and means "son of Madoc". Madoc or Madog is a prince in Welsh folklore who is said to have sailed to the New World three hundred years before Christopher Columbus . In terms of content, the name means "happy", derived from the Welsh term "mad".
