from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Madonna della Corona is a pilgrimage site near Spiazzi (municipality of Caprino Veronese ) in Veneto in Italy . With a height of 773  m slm it is one of the highest pilgrimage sites in Italy, high above the Adige valley .

The church can be reached on the one hand from Spiazzi (approx. 15-20 min. Walk or shuttle bus service), a place in the Monte Baldo massif east of Lake Garda . In addition, a hiking trail leads from Brentino in the Adige Valley up to the pilgrimage site, where almost 600 meters of altitude have to be overcome.

history

The church is 773 m above sea level on the rock.

The forerunner of the place was a hermitage since the end of the 12th century . The Order of Malta took over the place in 1436. In the 15th century the first church was built into the rock. The pilgrimage church and the surrounding buildings were restored from 1974 to 1978.

particularities

One of the special features of the church is its location and architecture: it was partly built directly into the rock, the west wall and parts of the north wall of the church are made of rock. There is also the “Statue of Our Lady of Sorrows” in the church, which found its way from Malta to this church.
