The Madra Dam ( Turkish Madra Barajı ) is a dam on Madra Çayı, a tributary of the Aegean Sea , on the provincial border of Balıkesir and İzmir in northwestern Turkey .
The Madra Dam is located 6 km east of the town of Altınova and 15 km south of the district town of Ayvalık in the hinterland of the coast. It was built in 1991-1998 to irrigate an area of 7872 hectares and to supply drinking water . The barrier structure is an 87 m high stone embankment with a clay core . The dam volume is 3.17 million m³. The reservoir covers an area of 2.67 km² with normal damming. The storage space is 79 million m³.
