The Catholic Magdalenenkirche in Wasserhofen in the municipality of Sankt Kanzian am Klopeinersee is a branch church dedicated to Kühnsdorf and Maria Magdalena . The church was probably built shortly in 1580 as a Protestant religious building for the neighboring castle.

Building

The church, covered with wooden shingles, is a late Gothic round building with a western porch and an elongated, rectangular choir in the east. The conical roof of the rotunda merges into a wooden turret with an onion helmet. A chamfered round arch portal leads from the vestibule, a wooden structure, into the church.

The wooden flat ceiling with stencil painting in the central room originally comes from the church of St. Marxen. The two-bay choir has a groin vault. The wall paintings titled Ecce homo were created by contemporary artist Valentin Oman .

Facility

At the high altar from the third quarter of the 18th century, the penitent Mary Magdalene can be seen on the altar sheet. The figures of the apostle Matthias and a female saint are placed above the sacrificial passage portals .
