Maggie O'Connor

Maggie O'Connor is an American violinist, fiddle player, and singer.

Maggie grew up in a musical family in Atlanta and played the violin in the family band when she was seven. She also took classical violin lessons from Larisa Morgulis , a graduate of the Odessa Conservatory. In her younger years she was a violinist and soloist in the symphony orchestras in her hometown and a member of various bluegrass and rock bands. At the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University she studied classical violin with Herbert Greenberg , graduating with a bachelor's and master's degree. She was a finalist in the Marbury Prize Competition , received a Career Development Grant from the Peabody Institute, and was accepted into its Five Year Advanced Degree Program .

As a member of her husband Mark O'Connor's band, she appeared on several of their albums as a singer and violinist, including the Grammy- winning Coming Home . She recorded the album Duo in 2015 with her husband. She also performed with the Zac Brown Band in Fenway Park in front of 20,000 listeners and made recordings with Paul Simon .

In the field of classical music, she and her husband have performed around the world, including at the Leopold Auer Music Academy in Hungary and on the occasion of Yehudi Menuhin's 100th birthday in the Konzerthaus in Berlin , and worked with orchestras such as the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and the Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra , the Walla Walla Orchestra and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra . Her repertoire also includes works by her husband such as the Strings and Threads Suite , the Double Violin Concerto and the Johnny Appleseed Suite .
