Magistrate (Switzerland)

The magistrate ( Latin magistratus "authority") is the designation of the highest state officials ("magistrates") in Switzerland . The Federal Councilors , the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Judges are “magistrates” within the meaning of Article 1 of the Federal Act on Salaries and Occupational  Benefits for Magistrates of October 6, 1989 ( SR 172.121). The same applies to the highest state officials at the cantonal level.
