Inscriptions
The following readings with their translations are taken from the publication of the English linguist Andrew Christopher West (* 1960). With regard to the inscriptions on the Maglocunus stone, there are also other types of reading and transmission options with minor differences.
Ogham inscription:
- ᚛ ᚋᚐᚌᚂᚔᚉᚒᚅᚐᚄᚋᚐᚊᚔᚉᚂᚒᚈᚐ (ᚏᚔ)
- (Reading direction in the adjacent markings from bottom to top, in the photo above from right to left)
Transmission:
- MAGLICUNAS MAQI CLUTA (RI)
Translation:
- (Stone) of Maglicunas, son of Clutaria
Latin inscription:
- MAGLOCVNFILICLVTOR−
This Latin inscription is located on the windowsill plate above the horizontal Ogham line and is more difficult to see. In terms of content, the statement is the same as in the Ogham inscription.
Transmission:
- MAGLOCVN (I) FILI CLVTORI
Translation:
- (Stone) of Maglocunus, son of Clutorius
