The Mahawu is a 1,324 meter high stratovolcano on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi . It is located directly east of the Lokon-Empung volcano in the Sulawesi Utara province . The volcano has a 180 m wide and 140 m deep crater with two pyroclastic cones in the north flanks. A small explosive eruption was registered in 1789. The last eruption was observed in 1977. In 1994 fumaroles , mud pots and activities of a small geyser were observed on the greenish rim of the crater lake.
