Mahmud Shammam

Mahmud Shammam is a Libyan journalist and founder of the private broadcaster Libya TV .

Shammam studied in the USA. There he went into opposition to the faithful of the former Libyan President Muammar al-Gaddafi , Mussa Kussa. When he was back in Libya, he took part in student protests in Benghazi in the 1970s . In 1976 he left Libya and lived in exile from then on. For ten years he worked for the Arabic edition of Newsweek news magazine . In March 2011, he founded the Qatar-based broadcaster Libya TV , which supported the opposition during the civil war.

Mahmud Shammam is responsible for the media in the Libyan National Transitional Council (NTC). Regarding their goals, said: "What we want is to build a democratic and pluralistic society."
