Reminder and memorial in Dolle

The memorial for the victims of fascist terror is a memorial to the victims of fascism in the village of Dolle in Saxony-Anhalt . 67 murdered concentration camp inmates, including unknown names, are buried in it.

The memorial is located directly on federal highway 189 at the northern end of the village. The memorial designed by the architect Rudolf Reichel was inaugurated on September 9, 1951.

To the south of the complex is a forecourt, from which one can take steps to a parade ground in front of a tower. This square is framed by pillars. Each pillar bears the name of a concentration camp as an inscription. On both sides of the tower are main pillars, which are equipped with bowls made of natural stone for an eternal fire.

The central object of the memorial is a square tower. The tower, built from red quarry stone and sandstone from Nordgermersleben , bears the inscription: I am, I was, I will be! . Above it is a sandstone relief which symbolically represents the suffering of the concentration camp prisoners in chains and their liberation.

The inside of the tower houses a small, simple memorial hall. In the middle there is a sacrificial bowl with the inscription: Honor the dead. In memory of those who rest here. As a warning to the living. The bones of the 67 murdered prisoners rest in the cellar vault of the tower.
