Maiboom love beech
The Maiboomsche Liebesbuche is a beech in Hamburg-Hohenfelde in the corner property Eilenau / Lessingstraße on the edge of the Kuhmühlenteich . On a pin board in front of the tree, notes with wishes for happiness in love and thanks for fulfilled love are pinned.
history
The garden house of the Hamburg merchant family Maiboom stood on the property from 1795 to 1845. During the French period in Hamburg , this was where Clemens Maiboom, a member of the Patriotic Circle, and Clothilde Gauthier, daughter of a French envoy, met secretly. The two of them planted this beech tree as a symbol of their love when they were old.
The pin board
People who are in love or abandoned can post messages and wishes on slips of paper on the pin board . Text examples: “We will always stay together”, “In love and in great connection”, “give me back the love of my life”. The owner of the property looks after the beech and the pin board.
