Maine Northern Railway

The Maine Northern Railway (MNR) is an American shortline railroad company based in Oakfield, Maine . It is a subsidiary of Saint John (New Brunswick) sitting New Brunswick Southern Railway (NBSR) and belongs to such as these JDIrving Group. The company manages a railway network of 376 kilometers in length, which is used exclusively for freight traffic.

history

The MNR was on 24 May 2011 in Delaware established to the in Maine ( United States ) lying northern part of the network of Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway to manage (MMA). This had become necessary after the MMA no longer wanted to operate the routes and sold them to the state of Maine. On July 1, 2011, MNR leased the lines from the state. This affects the routes Millinocket Oakfield Squa Pan Fort Kent Madawaska, Oakfield Houlton, Squa Pan Presque Isle Caribou Limestone and Presque Isle Fort Fairfield. The lines were built between 1893 and 1910 by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad .

Route network

The railway company does not have its own vehicles, but the NBSR locomotive 9801 was given the MNR lettering. The freight transport itself is carried out by the NBSR. The routes on which the MNR operates are owned by the state of Maine or the MMA. There is a right of joint use on the MMA routes. The following list contains the route sections operated:
