The SR 189 begins in Whiting on US Highway 1. After the junction, the road follows a northeast course through Trescott Township (part of the disorganized area of East Central Washington) and West Lubec before reaching its terminus, the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge , where it continues after the bridge as New Brunswick Route 774 .
