The mercenary leader Sebastian Vogelsberger had the stately building erected in Wissembourg in 1542 as a residence. After his execution and expropriation, the city of Wissembourg acquired the house in 1541. According to historical information, it was badly damaged during a city fire in 1677 and was probably restored in the first third of the 18th century. A bay window was probably replaced by the balcony over the portal in 1811. Remains of the painting commissioned by Vogelsberger were found on sandstone supports. Restorations probably took place in 1874 and 1904, improper work in 1935. From 1804 to 1807 the building was the seat of the sub-prefecture. After a few years in private ownership, it was owned by the Post until 1871. It was then acquired by the German military administration and became the seat of the garrison commander. After World War II it came back into the possession of the city of Wissembourg. It was used as a school building.
