from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Makasutu Wildlife Trust (German: Makasutu Tierwelt Treuhand ) is the leading non-governmental organization (NGO) in the West African state of Gambia , which is dedicated to charitable purposes.

She wants to protect the fauna of the Gambia and their habitat and to create a greater awareness of the careful use and preservation of nature among the population. The Makasutu Wildlife Trust works actively on site to conserve biological diversity, train the population and support studies and research projects by natural scientists. Representative habitats in The Gambia receive special attention; the responsible use of natural resources is encouraged.

The headquarters of the Makasutu Wildlife Trust is located at the Darwin Field Station for Biodiversity Research, Education and Training in the Abuko Nature Reserve . There in the national park 15 employees look after the projects. They research the animal world, teach the population and show visitors to the nature park the diverse nature. They also run a veterinary clinic where injured or orphaned animals are cared for and released back into the wild in due course. The actual veterinary clinic is not the animal orphanage that visitors to Abuko can see on their tour.
