Makiełki

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Makiełki is a traditional Polish dessert made from poppy seeds and noodles , which is particularly important in the Polish Christmas tradition.

Makiełki are made from poppy seeds boiled in milk, which is then ground and made into a sweet mass with honey , raisins and almonds . Also, orange peel , lemon peel and dried figs are often used. You put the poppy seed mixture in the cold for a long time and then add at least the same amount of (often homemade) pasta. Finally, the Makiełki are heated in the oven and lightly roasted.

In central Poland, makiełki are part of the traditional, festive menu on Christmas Eve , while in eastern Poland traditionally the closely related dessert kutja is preferred. Also poppy seed games ( Makówki ), as they are common in Silesian and Brandenburg cuisine, and poppy seed noodles , as we know them from Austrian cuisine, are close to the Polish Makiełki.
