Maconi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Makoni is a populated place and a district in Manicaland Province in eastern Zimbabwe .

The district, like those of Hurungwe and Nyanga, is dominated by agriculture. According to the 2012 census, the district has 272,340 inhabitants. Its economy is dominated by small and medium-sized tobacco farms. However, since the controversial "accelerated land reform " in Zimbabwe, it has made more headlines about the need for food aid .

The place has several elementary schools and junior high schools and is administered by the Makoni Rural District Council based in Rusape . The dual administrative system is characterized by the existence of traditional chiefs' courts, which still serve as a court in small disputes, such as that of Chief Tandi as head of the Tandi Communal Area.
