Malte Mårtensson

Malte Mårtensson (* 1916 , † 1973 ) was a Swedish football player and coach.

Career

Mårtensson started playing football at HAIS in Helsingborg . In 1934 he moved to Helsingborgs IF . Although he rose at the end of the season with the club from the Allsvenskan to Division 2 , but remained loyal to the club. In 1937 he returned to the top class and as a high performer he was able to recommend himself for the Swedish national team, in which he made his debut on November 21, 1937 in the 5-0 defeat in the qualifying game for the 1938 World Cup against the German national team. Although he qualified for the tournament, he was not nominated for the final squad.

In 1941 Mårtensson won the championship and cup double with HIF . He was still in the national team until 1947, scoring three goals in 16 games. In 1952, after almost 20 years and 612 games for his club, he ended his active career and moved to the coaching bench at his home club. Later he worked on the board of the association. In 1966 he had to give up the post after he lost his sight after a traffic accident.
