Maly (Russian: Малый , until 1950 Малый Лавенсари ; Finnish: Peninsaari ) is an island in the Gulf of Finland . It is located in Kingissepp Rajon in the Russian Oblast of Leningrad around 6 km east of the island of Moschtschny (Finnish: Lavansaari ) and 17 km west of the island of Seskar . Malyi is called "low, wooded and surrounded by a reef". The island belonged to Finland like the neighboring islands until the winter war of 1940 and was part of the Lavansaari municipality.
