Man in Black (song)

Man in Black is a song written by Johnny Cash in 1971 and released on the album of the same name that same year. It's a protest song in which Johnny Cash, known by the nickname Man in Black , explains why he always wears black clothes.

"I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down, Livin 'in the hopeless, hungry side of town, I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime, But is there because he's a victim of the times."

The song reached number 3 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. Man in Black was also the title of Johnny Cash's first autobiography , published in 1975. The music project 1,000 Days, 1,000 Songs published the title on its website in February 2017 as a protest against the policies of US President Donald Trump .
