CV Rock ( pseudonym , later also the official name for Kurt Walter Roecken ; born June 18, 1906 in Essen , † February 25, 1985 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was a German writer . He also published under the pseudonyms CV Freed , Cecil V. Freed , Anthony Michael , CV Roecken , Walter Roecken , Edgar T. Sterling and Henry Walter .

Life

Kurt Walter Roecken began an artistic training at an art academy in the early thirties . After the National Socialist seizure of power , Roecken, who was married to a Jew, had to leave the academy under pressure from the new rulers. He tried his hand at book illustrator , cover designer and writer of entertainment novels , which appeared under the pseudonym CV Rock. After he had learned English in self-study , he occupied himself - among other things as a translator - with the contemporary American detective novel , which became the decisive stimulus for his further work. Rock sat in on a course for prospective detective officers in Berlin and for his numerous detective novels often resorted to real cases from the work of the German and American criminal police . He also wrote some works from the field of science fiction and scripts for feature films . He wrote the screenplay for the ARD - evening series That's shooting star for the first time in February 1965 at the Regional Program of the Saarland Radio aired.

After the end of the World War , Rock initially lived in Austria , later in Munich-Schwabing and in Oberammergau . In the 1950s he became one of the most productive authors for the loan book and booklet novel market . Later he mainly wrote articles and serial novels for magazines as well as a number of volumes in the field of youth literature on the career of the Canadian Mounties "Billy" and the science fiction series "The Luna IV Quartet".
