The Manabe ( Japanese 間 部 氏 , Manabe-shi ) were a family of the Japanese sword nobility ( Buke ) from the province of Mikawa , which was derived from Fujiwara no Takafusa . With an income of 40,000 Koku , the Manabe residing in Sabae ( Fukui Prefecture ) belonged to the smaller Fudai daimyo of the Edo period .

genealogy

  • Akifusa ( 詮 勝 ; 1666-1720) was the first of the family who was raised to daimyo rank in 1707 . In 1710 he received Takasaki Castle ( Kōzuke ) with 50,000 Koku and moved to Murakami Castle ( Echigo ) in 1717 .
  • Akitoki ( 詮 言 ; 1690-1724), Akifusa's son, was transferred to Sabae ( Echizen ) in 1720 . There the Manabe resided in a permanent house ( jinya ) until 1868.
  • Akikatsu ( 詮 勝 ; 1802-1884) was Vice Chancellor ( Rōjū ) and thus had one of the highest posts in Bakufu . He was sent to Kyoto by the Chancellor ( Tairō ) Ii Naosuke in October 1858 to defend the political views of Bakufu and the conclusion of the Treaty of Kanagawa before the Tennō . He was successful with this, also with the authorization to defend the shogunate against internal enemies. After Naosuke's murder , he was removed from his post and his income reduced to 40,000 koku.
  • Akimichi ( 詮 道 ; 1853-1892) was the last daimyo and after 1868 vice count .
